What Youll Do

The process technical specialist provides technical leadership in the Process Engineering organization for assigned tasks and processes in a machining/fabrication area including equipment/facility/process upgrades process feasibility/scoping studies and tracks and informs management of status of established project/task goals schedules and funding.

Ensures proper sequence of operation and prepares manufacturing instructions and plans for manufacturing processes and equipment. Specify tests and measurements to ensure process controls produce products to specifications. Manages troubleshoots solves and proactively prevents manufacturing problems.

Works independently or as a team member to solve manufacturing processing problems of significant and/or far reaching complexity. Works with production personnel to determine the nature of the problem devises guidelines for data gathering provides recommendations and carries out solutions based upon knowledge and manufacturing experience.

Develops methods of utilizing manufacturing craft production equipment tooling and other resources to fabricate products for Y-12 mission requirements. Works closely with shop supervisors and craft workers to ensure process plans are aligned with the established experience base. Investigates sources of nonconforming or unexpected results evaluates condition makes processing decisions and oversees corrective actions. Utilizes Statistical Process Control techniques for process control and improvement.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree: No experience.
  • Eight or more years of relevant education training and/or progressive experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years of experience for this posting.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
