University of Hawaii Kapiolani Community College Business Legal Technology (BLT) Department is seeking applications for the Accounting Lecturer position. Other Conditions:For placement into the lecturer pool beginning Spring 2026. Subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach courses in the assigned subject area;

  2. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;

  3. Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;

  4. Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;

  5. Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;

  6. Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week).

  7. Classes may be offered online evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Masters degree in Accounting (Macc); or

  2. Masters in Business Administration (MBA) including 18 credits in Accounting (undergraduate and/or graduate 300 level or higher); or

  3. Bachelors degree in Accounting and 3 years related work experience in Accounting; or

  4. Bachelors degree in related fields such as Business Administration (in areas other than Accounting) including 18 credits Accounting (undergraduate and/or graduate 300 level or higher) and 5 years related work experience in Accounting; or

  5. Bachelors in any field and CPA/CMA or equivalent professional accounting certification (in the USA).


Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Successful community college teaching in terms of student-learning outcomes.

  2. Experience in integrating writing technology and thinking skills into teaching.

  3. Familiar with current technologies and computer information systems.

  4. Three years or more current professional experience working with data analysis and databases.

  5. Three years or more current professional experience in cybersecurity.

  6. Three years or more current professional experience in working extensively with Excel.

  7. Three years or more current professional experience in using QuickBooks Online.

  8. Five years or more professional experience setting up and working with a mutli-user or single-user accounting software or systems other than QuickBooks.

  9. Current QuickBooks Certified User (QBCU) certification for the online version or a current QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification specifically for QuickBooks Online.

  10. Performing data backup restore or migration operations between different accounting software versions or systems.

  11. Recent experience integrating an accounting system with a third-party application such as CRM POS payroll software etc.

  12. Other Accounting or IT related certifications.
