This position offers a practical and rewarding opportunity to support Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities across East Arnhem Land. It will suit someone who values good organisation clear communication and working respectfully with others to achieve fair and transparent outcomes.

The Northern Land Council (NLC) is seeking a Consultation and Administration Officer to join the Benefits Distribution team in Nhulunbuy. The role involves working closely with Traditional Owners and community groups to coordinate meetings record instructions and support the distribution of income from Aboriginal land in line with NLC policies and procedures.

This is a meaningful administrative role where your attention to detail and commitment to service will directly contribute to effective and transparent decision-making.

Location and Lifestyle

This position is based in Nhulunbuy Northern Territory and offers the opportunity to live and work in one of the regions most connected and culturally rich communities. Applicants should already be residing in or be able to reside in Nhulunbuy to take up the position. NLC does not currently have any staff housing available..

About the Role

As a Consultation and Administration Officer youll be part of a small dedicated team that helps Traditional Owners make informed decisions about how income from Aboriginal land is distributed.

Each day brings a mix of work: from organising meetings and recording community instructions to preparing documentation that ensures payments are processed accurately and on time. Youll build respectful relationships with Traditional Owners and community groups and provide support that helps them navigate processes with confidence and clarity.

Youll work with the Coordinator Benefits Distribution (Consultation and Administration) and colleagues across the NLC to make sure every consultation is culturally appropriate well-documented and consistent with legislative and policy requirements.

About You

Youre someone who enjoys contributing to steady well-organised work that supports communities and delivers on commitments.

You will bring:

  • Experience in administration consultation or community engagement;
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with attention to detail;
  • The ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal people and build positive relationships;
  • Confidence using basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office; and
  • A C Class drivers licence and willingness to travel within the region.

A Diploma in administration business or community services is desirable but practical experience and the right attitude are most important.

We offer:

  • Base salary $% superannuation
  • Salary packaging up to $15900 p.a. ( $2650 for meals/accommodation)
  • District allowance: $9926 (with dependents) or $6114 (without)
  • Five (5) weeks annual leave leave loading 20 days personal leave
  • Annual airfare benefit (net value $3177 after 12 months service)

Important Dates

The NLCs annual close-down period runs from 22 December 2025 to 4 January 2026.
New employees will commence from 20 January 2026.
