The Consultant is a position that maintains contact with a diverse portfolio of clients with the aim of providing exceptional client service. The Consultant will focus on the VAT recovery service towards getting the refunds of VAT paid by the clients in the countries where they are not registered for VAT. This position includes the analysis of clients transactions submission of VAT recovery claims and all the follow-up needed to ensure the VAT refund including training and supervision of tax recovery assistants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides exceptional service to a diverse portfolio of multi-state clients managing the end-to-end VAT recovery process.
Maintains direct client communication ensuring timely collection and analysis of required documents.
Oversees the preparation and submission of VAT claims to foreign tax authorities and updates internal systems accordingly.
Conducts external audits at client sites and internal audits in-office reviewing travel entertainment and accounts payable invoices to identify VAT-deductible expenses across Europe.
Manages audit workloads and ensures compliance with internal procedures.
Supports clients with VAT-related issues including undue VAT recovery through supplier follow-ups.
Handles tax authority communications including information requests reconsiderations and deadline tracking.
Manages VAT claim submissions across various portals and declaration forms.
Supervises and trains junior staff including Tax Recovery Assistants and Junior Consultants.
Collaborates with department managers on forecasting and operational needs.
Ensures adherence to company procedures and quality standards.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Masters degree in Taxation Finance Economy Law Management Accounting or related field required with 1-year experience minimum in the VAT field or 2-year experience as a junior consultant in the department.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written). Other European languages will also be valued.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and Internet navigation and research.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervising of Tax Recovery Assistants.
