Job Summary

Overview

The Flight Registered Nurse renders highly skilled and professional critical care to patients while in flight. This person will be caring for patients from neonate infant child adolescent adult and the geriatric populations. The nurse will must have knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of these populations. Clinical expertise enable the Flight Registered Nurse to administer skills critical decision making and safe practice at all times. Must be able to function independent of medical control on scene or when communication is difficult or unavailable.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Assesses the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant patient health information.

* Proficient in life saving interventions including but not limited to advanced airway management endotracheal Intubation ventilator management chest decompression etc. .

* Strong fundamental knowledge of pharmacological agents and ability to safely administer all medications including vasoactive medications sedatives paralytics etc.

* Functions with a high level of autonomy providing critical care to patients of every age group and specialty as needed (e.g. adult critical care pediatric critical care high risk obstetrics etc.)



Communication
* Accepts assignments to various bases of operation when needed.

* Inspects and assures all equipment and supplies are present and in proper working condition on the aircraft and at the base daily and following each transport.

* Responsible for reporting and returning broken equipment to appropriate facility for repair.

* Works in collaboration with GAT Employees Referring and Receiving Hospital Staff EMS etc.

* Promotes Guardian Air at PR events and in routine interactions with community hospital staff EMS patients and family.

* Uses appropriate communication styles in the workplace.



Documentation
* Documents care provided in the EMR to a high degree of detail in accordance with QA parameters.



Education
* Stays on top of trends and evidence based practice in pre-hospital emergency critical care perinatal and pediatric medicine.

* Working knowledge of aviation and safely functions as a crew member on Fixed and Rotor Wing aircraft.

* Maintains all required certifications and required training for clinical practice and aviation.



Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Maintains at least one base responsibility or committee.



Call Requirement
* All flight line staff are required to maintain a minimum of 1 day of call per month. This day of call may be waived (at Scheduling Manager discretion) by picking up a minimum of 2 additional shifts per month beyond your budgeted schedule. Additional details noted in the Guardian Air On Call Policy.

Qualifications

Education
Associates degree in nursing - Required
RNs hired on or after 7/1/2016: Must obtain a Bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) within 6 years of hire into a Flight RN position.
RNs hired before 7/1/2016 are not mandated to have a BSN but are encouraged to pursue a BSN degree.


Certification & Licensures
Active unrestricted Arizona RN License or valid participating compact license - Required
American Heart Association: BLS ACLS and PALS- Required
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) - Required within 6 months of hire
Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) - Required within 1 years of hire
Transport Professional Advanced Trauma (TPATC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) course- Required within one (1) year of hire (TPATC has 6 month grace period for renewal)
STABLE course- Required within one (1) year of hire
Current Drivers license in the state in which they reside with no moving violations within prior 39 months- Required


Experience
Three (3) years of critical care experience- Required (ICU high acuity ED)
Previous experience in more than one specialty area- Preferred
Previous flight experience - Preferred
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
