The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time contract (12 months) Senior Communications Advisor Research Communications to lead the development and delivery of strategic communications knowledge translation and storytelling that highlight CAMHs world-class research and impact.

Reporting to the Manager Research Communications within Public Affairs with matrix reporting to and Research Operations Services and Support (ROSS) leadership this position will play a key role in shaping and executing integrated communications strategies that amplify CAMHs research excellence build reputation and engage internal and external audiences. The successful candidate will be a strategic and creative communicator who thrives in a research-driven environment capable of translating complex scientific concepts into accessible engaging stories and visuals across a number of platforms that inspire action and understanding.

The successful candidate will provide biomedical and research communications support across CAMH developing written scientific content visuals and messaging that make complex findings accessible and compelling. They will also support research-specific event coordination and communications for Research Institute initiatives. The role requires a strategic detail-oriented communicator who can manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining close collaboration with colleagues partners and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy and implementation for the development of written research communications and marketing tactics (including press releases website text newsletters social media internal communications and reports) for the purposes of mental health promotion and knowledge translation.
  • Create edit and produce high-quality written and visual content that translates complex scientific and research concepts into accessible engaging formats for diverse audiences.
  • Coordinate and deliver research communications activities and events including launches symposia and knowledge exchange initiatives; provide administrative and organizational support for meetings outreach and dissemination efforts across the CAMH research community.
  • Maintain and update research web content and digital platforms monitor communications projects and deliverables and prepare reports on activities progress and engagement metrics to inform continuous improvement.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships with scientists research staff communications colleagues and stakeholder organizations to ensure alignment collaboration and the consistent promotion of CAMHs research priorities through an equity-informed lens.

Post-secondary education in communications journalism public relations science or other related areas combined with at least five years of experience in communications knowledge translation or related role or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a research or academic health sciences setting is an asset. Excellent writing editing and storytelling skills for multiple formats and audiences. Proficiency with digital communications tools (e.g. WordPress Mailchimp Hootsuite) design and editing software (e.g. Canva Adobe Creative Suite) and photo/video production tools. Graduate degree or certificate in biomedical communications would be an asset.

  • The position is based at CAMHs Queen Street site
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support events or deadlines.
