POSITION PURPOSE: The Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist works with patients who have been diagnosed with asthma emphysema chronic obstructive pulmonary disease angina coronary artery disease heart attack and other conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES: Supervisory-Specific Performance Expectations Duties and Responsibilities: o N/A Position-Specific Performance Expectations Duties and Responsibilities: o Ensures the patient understands their medical condition and the recommended medical regimen. o Explains to the patient when they can safety resume normal activities. o Identifies unique risk factors such as hypertension smoking poor diet and being overweight that may be contributing to the patient s health problems. o Suggests cardiac and pulmonary educational topics and lifestyle modifications to reduce health risks. o Educates and supports the patient in making key changes such as eating healthier foods quitting smoking and increasing physical activity. o Designs and monitors an appropriate customized exercise program for the patient. o Demonstrates clinical knowledge and judgment to adjust exercise prescriptions and exercise workloads as patient progresses. o Collaborates and communicates with physicians and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of the patient. o Documents patients progress clearly using proper medical terminology. o Identifies abnormal rhythm strips and abnormal response to exercise and reacts accordingly including initiation of emergency procedures. o Attends mandatory educational programs required by the department and the hospital. o Takes immediate corrective action to Stop the Line if patient safety is compromised. o Follows required safety practices including National Patient Safety Goals; if indicates and/or reports problems to appropriate personnel or potential or actual safety concerns. o Performs other duties as assigned. Organization-Specific Performance Expectations Duties and Responsibilities: o Demonstrates 100% commitment to performance in accordance with the CHOICE values of MRH and representing the organization in a positive and professional manner. o Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients staff and vendors. o Adheres to MRH attire/dress code per policies and procedures. Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain a steady level of productivity; self-motivated; and manages activity and time o Completes annual education training in-service and licensure/certification requirements; and attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes. o Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. o Reports to work on time as scheduled; completes work within designated timeframes. o Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. o Strives to uphold regulatory requirements to ensure continual compliance with departmental hospital state and federal regulations and policies. o Follows policies and procedures for infection control safety and risk management to ensure a safe environment for patients the public and staff. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Requirements: o Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions with a valid driver s license). o Must be able to legally work in the United States. o Must be able to pass a background check. o Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable). o Must complete employee health meeting. o Must possess a clean driving record and pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check and meet insurability Guidelines (if applicable) see below o Must be 21 years of age of older o Must possess a valid driver s license o Must not have three (3) or more violations in three years o Must not have any of the following violations regardless of the time period: Homicide involving a vehicle Using a vehicle to elude an officer Hit and run Manslaughter with a vehicle Felony with a vehicle False report to police department Permitting an unlicensed driver to drive o Any two or more preventable accidents in 3 years a preventable accident is any traffic accident which results in property damage and/or personal injury regardless of who was injured what property was damaged to what extent or where it occurred in which the driver in question failed to exercise every reasonable precaution or action to avoid the accident. Driving to avoid preventable accidents is defensive driving. The fact that the driver was not charged with a traffic violation by law enforcement is not a part of our definition. o Any driver convicted of any of the following within the last five years: o Any alcohol or drug related offense including but not limited to driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Required Education/Licensure/Certification: o Must have current BLS certification (or must be obtained within 90 days). o A Bachelor s in Exercise Physiology or related field preferred. Experience: o One (1) year of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation experience preferred.
