Job Title: Veterans Resource Center Consultant (Program Strategy & Operations)

Location: Hybrid Stamford CT (on-site Tuesdays & Thursdays)

Rate: Commensurate with experience (W2/1099) project-based up to 30 hrs/week

Position Overview:
Were seeking a consultant to elevate a municipal Veterans Resource Center through strategic planning program design and day-to-day operational support. Youll formalize standards and workflows recommend and help implement a modern CRM and build partnerships that improve access to benefits transportation emergency assistance and social services for veterans and their families. Ideal candidates bring experience in veteran-serving programs CRM selection/rollout volunteer training (including trauma-informed care) and measurable performance frameworks.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess how the Center currently operates and write clear practical SOPs for every key function (intake data capture follow-up privacy). Include what the veteran experience should look like from arrival to resolution.
  • Recommend and help implement a fit-for-purpose CRM (e.g. Salesforce or equivalent) for registering and tracking visits outcomes and follow-ups; define data protection protocols. (Center will fund the CRM; consultant should not price the software.)
  • Propose a core slate of programs based on local needs and national best practices (e.g. transportation to medical appointments via rideshare and emergency financial assistance to prevent homelessness).
  • Design and deliver training for volunteers and municipal service representatives-covering trauma-informed care resource navigation and VA benefits assistance.
  • Develop a plan to engage experienced Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) to mentor the volunteer team and strengthen case support.
  • Lead outreach and networking to expand partnerships with regional agencies and veteran-focused organizations; raise the Centers visibility and credibility.
  • Provide a realistic project timeline with milestones and deliverables aligned to the grant period (anticipated start December 2025; funds available through September 2026).
  • Be on-site and actively engaged in Center operations on Tuesdays and Thursdays; work hybrid otherwise.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years leading program strategy/operations in human services public sector or nonprofit settings; veterans-serving experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success selecting/implementing CRMs defining intake/triage workflows and establishing data governance/privacy practices.
  • Experience designing volunteer/staff training (trauma-informed care benefits navigation customer service).
  • Knowledge of VA/state/local veteran benefits and community resource networks; ability to stand up transportation and emergency-assistance workflows.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement partnership development and community outreach skills.
  • Comfort operating in hybrid environments; ability to be on-site Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Familiarity with federal grant compliance and 2 C.F.R. 200 basics is a plus.
