The Avance Residency is a one-year robust teacher preparation program for candidates in the greater Los Angeles area. Avance disrupts systems of inequity in teacher preparation to collectively innovate transform and provide access and advancement for educators especially those from our historically marginalized communities. We invest in and develop them to thrive so that our students receive the highest quality education starting on day Avance teacher residents learn what to teach how to teach it and build strong networks of support through cohort learning mentorship and university programs.
The Opportunity
An Avance Resident Teacher is a nonexempt classified staff member. Residents are a critical part of school communities within the Avance consortium*. Avance residents work under the supervision of a mentor teacher and support them in implementing all instructional components. While planning and implementing instructional content residents receive coaching and mentoring from their Avance mentor teacher.
