Position Overview

The mechanical testing team located in Kennesaw is seeking a mechanical engineer co-op. The co-op will automate a fracture/crack evaluation process that previously was done manually with a combination of mechanical electrical optical imaging and programming code. Goal is to remove variation between manual human ratings all in a package that can be potentially replicated among multiple locations. This co-op starts May 2026 and ends December 2026.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples previously rated by humans to feed into image databases.
• Design automated mechanism to feed samples into imaging system.
• Manipulate samples for multiple angle imaging.
• Write program to analyze images for crack severity and rate depending on chosen test spec.

Minimum qualifications

• Sophomore in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering or CS with mechanical/electrical background

Preferred qualifications

• First robotics experience or similar competitive robotics or engineering team at high school level
• College level extracurricular team experience
