The Research Priority Area (RPA)Shaping Interfaces Between Science and the Public at the University of Amsterdam aims to strengthen the interaction between science citizen science social debate and various professional practices. The challenges of the future require scientifically informed policies and equipped citizens. But how do we align science policy and society How do we involve the public in scientific debates about complex issues such as quantum mental health climate change and the responsible use of new technologies such as generative AI How do we collaborate with the public in scientific research to generate new knowledge or understanding And how do we communicate the different scientific methods including their possible shortcomings to the public The RPA brings together UvA methodologists and philosophers of science and technology from fields as diverse as psychiatry and mental health human rights and the digital humanities. The RPA is a collaboration between the faculties of Humanities Law Science Social and Behavioural Sciences and the faculty of Medicine at Amsterdam UMC.
The RPA is housed at the Institute for Advanced Study and is coordinated by the Faculty of Humanities. The Scientific Coordinators are Huub Dijstelbloem Claudi Bockting Rens Bod Denny Borsboom Yvonne Donders Selin Gerlek Sebastian De Haro and Sonja Smets.

This parttime position is offered for an initial 12 months for 152 hours per week with the option to extend for up to 24 months subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement. The UFO profile management/office-assistant 1 (scale 8) applies to this position. This means a gross monthly salary between 3.382 and 4.484 for full-time employment (38 hours per week) excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%).

The Research Priority Area (RPA) Shaping Interfaces Between Science and the Public meets every Monday at the University of Amsterdams Institute for Advanced Study. You will work at the IAS alongside the vibrant RPA community including the RPA Directorate researchers and external partners. The other day you will work at the Faculty of Humanities. You will be reaching out to external partners and collaborators be in touch with the larger Humanities/UvA community and with other interfaculty / interdisciplinary projects.
