Job Title: Microsoft SQL Expert

Location: Dublin 8 (Hybrid model 3 days onsite/2 days remote)

Contract / Permanent: 6 Months With further extension

Start date: December 2025/January 2026

Experience Level Required:

It is a mandatory requirement that the Resource proposed hold the following qualifications or equivalents:

Industry-standard SQL certifications e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate.

A degree or higher in computer science or IT-related discipline. Note: Evidence (i.e. a copy of the relevant certificate) of this may be required prior to contract award.

It is a mandatory requirement that the Resource proposed has the equivalent of 10 years experience in the Role including experience in the following areas:

Management of database availability and performance resilience sizing capacity and volumetric for all SQL environments.

Managing high availability resilience and database replication.

Deep familiarity with Azure SQL Database Azure SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server on Azure VMs.

Experience with Azure PaaS/IaaS/SaaS components including:

o Azure Functions

o App Services

o Logic Apps

o Azure Key Vault (e.g. EKM cryptographic provider integration)

o Understanding of elastic pools geo-replication and scaling strategies.

Ongoing administration of database objects: indexes tables views constraints sequences snapshots and stored procedures; page locks to achieve optimum utilization.

Performing database housekeeping routine tasks that ensure that the databases are functioning optimally and securely e.g. tuning indexing etc.

Comprehensive expertise in all SQL Server encryption methods (TDE SSL always encrypted etc.)

Managing Windows Server operating system and in particular clustering in both physical and virtual environments.

Managing database related storage volumes and working with the SAN.

Monitoring of usage; transaction volumes response times concurrency levels etc.

Generating reports related to the performance and integrity of the database.

Identification reporting and management of database security issues; audit trails and forensics.

Designing and implementing database backup archiving and storage strategy.

Designing and implementing database alerts and event management.

Database consultancy design creation & testing for new projects.

Provision of third-level support for all database-related incidents in the sector.

Creation and maintenance of database standards and policies.

Required full Driving License (i.e. a copy of the relevant certificate) of this may be required prior to contract award.

Key Deliverable:

The following non-exhaustive list of key deliverables is applicable to this Role:

Engage with Local Authorities to define and produce recommended best practice guidance

Engage with individual Local Authorities and review their environment and recommend changes

Supporting Local Authorities with SQL related issues e.g. data replication performance troubleshooting etc.

Provide knowledge transfer to Client and client staff

Participation in meetings.

Requirements

Key Experience/Competencies/Skillsets:

The following Experience/Competencies/Skillsets are applicable to this Role.

Demonstrate experience with frameworks such as the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and the Well-Architected Framework (WAF) which are essential for developing best practice guidance

Demonstrated experience in developing use cases and implementing them in real-world environments particularly with local authorities or similar organizations

Strong portfolio of previous projects where they have reviewed environments recommended changes and successfully implemented those changes.
