JOB OVERVIEW

XCEL Engineering is seeking a qualified applicant for a DevOps/Cloud Engineer role to assist the American Science Cloud. The American Science Cloud (AmSC) will deliver secure containerized workflows GPU-enabled training environments and integration with DOEs high-performance computing facilities. This collaborative effort will bring together cloud engineering HPC cybersecurity data science and program management expertise to build the next generation of scientific computing infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Design build and support AWS-based cloud infrastructure for distributed scientific workloads.
• Develop and maintain deployment pipelines and Kubernetes (EKS) environments.
• Assist with secure computing API development and workflow orchestration.
• Support containerized cross-facility workloads and AI/ML model deployment.
• Collaborate with scientists engineers and support teams to ensure reliable scalable solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5 years of experience in cloud engineering DevOps or related roles.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong scripting/automation skills (e.g. Python Bash Terraform).
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse cross-functional teams.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required. This requires US Citizenship.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 10 years of experience in cloud engineering DevOps or related roles.
• AWS services such as EKS SageMaker API Gateway IAM/Identity Center.
• Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform CloudFormation).
• Workflow orchestration tools (Apache Airflow Kubeflow).
• Experience with data storage systems (S3 PostgreSQL object storage).
• Familiarity with observability/automation tools and MLOps practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

• Inside office environment.
• Working on a computer for long periods of time.
• May involve long period of sitting at a desk.
• The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures.
