JOB OVERVIEW
XCEL Engineering is seeking a qualified applicant for a DevOps/Cloud Engineer role to assist the American Science Cloud. The American Science Cloud (AmSC) will deliver secure containerized workflows GPU-enabled training environments and integration with DOEs high-performance computing facilities. This collaborative effort will bring together cloud engineering HPC cybersecurity data science and program management expertise to build the next generation of scientific computing infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Design build and support AWS-based cloud infrastructure for distributed scientific workloads.
- Develop and maintain deployment pipelines and Kubernetes (EKS) environments.
- Assist with secure computing API development and workflow orchestration.
- Support containerized cross-facility workloads and AI/ML model deployment.
- Collaborate with scientists engineers and support teams to ensure reliable scalable solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of experience in cloud engineering DevOps or related roles.
- Hands-on experience with AWS Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong scripting/automation skills (e.g. Python Bash Terraform).
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse cross-functional teams.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required. This requires US Citizenship.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 10 years of experience in cloud engineering DevOps or related roles.
- AWS services such as EKS SageMaker API Gateway IAM/Identity Center.
- Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform CloudFormation).
- Workflow orchestration tools (Apache Airflow Kubeflow).
- Experience with data storage systems (S3 PostgreSQL object storage).
- Familiarity with observability/automation tools and MLOps practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Inside office environment.
- Working on a computer for long periods of time.
- May involve long period of sitting at a desk.
- The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures.
