The Center for Academic Success (CAS) is seeking a collaborative student-centered individual who values excellence in student services and is committed to holistic student success to serve as a Student Success Advisor at Seton Hall University.
Student Success Advisors serve as the initial point of contact for First-Year student adjustment to university life. They help students clarify personal academic and career goals; assist with the development and evaluation of University Life and Skills Courses; academically advise students for course registration; monitor academic progress; and connect students to campus resources throughout their first year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Advising students course registration and monitoring academic progress throughout a students first year (up to 30 credits).
Attending/working all New Student Orientations assisting with Open Houses Pirate Previews and other collaborative initiatives led by Enrollment Services and the Office of Student Engagement
Serving as an Instructor for 3 - 4 sections of the Fall semester CORE-1001 University Life Course which all first-year students must take; Contributing to the development and evaluation of the course curriculum. Instruction for this course is included in the advisors base pay.
Mentoring academically advising and guiding students throughout the first year
Being knowledgeable of campus resources and supports. Must be knowledgeable of FERPA Title IX Campus Security and all other required university policies and procedures.
Serving on Center for Academic Success teams/initiatives or University committees as assigned by the Assistant Vice President/Dean or Associate Dean
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university
A minimum of two years of professional experience with academic support services in a Higher Education setting or an equivalent job experience
Demonstrated ability to think critically work independently and collaborate in a team setting
The ability to work some weekend dates with notice and as needed
Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with First-Year Success Course Curriculum and Teaching
Experience in advising and supporting students in a higher education setting
Experience with Student Information Systems (e.g. Banner Compass and Degree Works)
Demonstrated record of excellence in Student Services
