Position Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner functions under the direction of the Medical Director or his/her designee in the Family Practice and Womens Health departments. The Advance Practice Nurse is a self directed nurse practitioner with advanced knowledge skill and competence in a defined area of nursing practice. The individual functions as an educator consultant and coordinator of care and is a primary provider of care for a select group of patients. Covers STD Clinic.
The ANP is responsible to a designated physician for supervision of patient case management/prescription writing.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Clinical Practice
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill necessary to independently provide care to clients within specialty area and across the health care continuum.
- Complete detailed medical history record current illness or injury conduct a physical examination order and perform appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
- Makes appropriate internal/external referrals and effectively utilizes available community resources.
- Assist clients and their families.
- Assess results of tests and make appropriate clinical judgments.
- Assess physical and psychosocial health and illness status of patient.
- Serve as a clinical resource to staff across the health care continuum for a given specialty area.
- Deliver care in a manner that preserves and protects client autonomy dignity confidentiality and rights.
- Document pertinent client and family data in the medical record per department standards.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively within and across disciplines.
- Quality Improvement and Research
- Validate that clinical practice meets established standards throughparticipation in department and unit based quality improvement projects
- Utilize quality improvement data and research findings to enhance client care.
- Educator
- Provide client and family teaching focused on current treatment andprocedures as well as health promotion and illness/injury prevention.
- Educate nursing staff other disciplines and/or community agencies whennecessary to effect optimal client care.
- Contribute to the education of nursing students with primary focus on roleand/or area of specialization.
- In collaboration with nursing leadership participate in the development ofclinical competencies and practice standards related to the care of specialtyclient population.
- 4. Professional Development
- Identify own learning needs and assume responsibility for maintaining currentknowledge and competency in clinical practice specialty.
- Participate in professional community or governmental organizations thatfunction to advance the nursing profession and/or improve health caredelivery to consumers
- Complete the annual mandatory trainings eg. Safety review Infection Controlstandards.
- Participate as a committee member/chairperson when requested.
- Maintains and provides upon request required records for the purposes ofcredentialing and privileging with hospitals and/or insurances.
- Attends required meetings.
- Other Duties
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN). Must be a currently licensed registered nurse in the state of Massachusetts have Nurse Practitioner authorization for prescriptive authority and have successfully completed boards. Previous NP experience required. Spanish & Haitian Creole preferred.
