CBC News is searching for an Executive Producer Syndicated Audio to lead a team of cross-Canada journalists who support more than 60 radio programs across six time zones. Our teams values are your DNA.

In this senior role you are responsible for ensuring we create and distribute objective and factual content that is informed by news of the day to local radio programs across the country. Youre a change leader who prioritizes communication feedback and continuous improvement. Building relationships is at the core of everything you do including with your team freelancers and the programmers we support.
What youll be doing:
As a top-tier leader youll be front and centre in our audio strategy driving innovation and this role youll:
Lead with Impact: You bring your A-game everyday guiding and inspiring a talented team of producers and editors setting the daily editorial tone for our daily content offer. You ensure we are responsive when big stories break and you help develop strategies to be on top of those stories across the day or in days ahead.
Mentor & Develop: Provide strong editorial leadership offering clear direction constructive feedback and growth opportunities to a large team of journalists. You cultivate a high-performing collaborative and respectful work culture where everyone feels empowered to contribute.
Champion Audience Growth: Your editorial decisions are focused on expanding our reach particularly to new and younger news consumers and to deepen our engagement with all Canadians. You understand the pulse of Canadian audiences and their habits and translate insights and data into actionable content strategies for our local morning and afternoon programs including their livestreams.
Foster Authentic Storytelling: You champion content that truly reflects the richness and diversity of perspectives ideas and real-life experiences across Canada. You inspire your team to think inclusively always asking whose voice is missing and you work diligently to close that gap whether thats with the guest we are booking or in the taped items we share. You collaborate with journalistic leaders across CBC News ensuring Canadians hear themselves reflected in our daily coverage.
Innovate & Strategize: With your deep understanding of the constantly evolving radio and audio landscape and emerging streaming trends youre instrumental in updating and communicating the units strategy to ensure alignment with the goals of CBC News. You translate big ideas into tangible actions always focused on helping the audience immerse themselves in the audio experience.
Uphold Journalistic Excellence: Ensure all content adheres to CBCs rigorous Journalistic Standards and Practices navigating complex ethical and legal considerations with grace and precision.
Were looking for someone who:
Has at least five years of recent significant leadership experience in a fast-paced news environment particularly in roles involving breaking news and large teams. Experience in local current affairs is an asset.
Demonstrates a proven passion for impactful journalism critical thinking and innovative storytelling across multiple platforms. Youre not just reporting the news; youre shaping how its consumed.
Is an astute strategist capable of translating audience insights and data into effective content decisions and programming results.
Has strong coaching and mentorship skills with a track record of developing talent and fostering a positive inclusive and equitable work environment.
Is comfortable navigating rapid change troubleshooting complex situations and making swift decisions under pressure.
Brings a deep and nuanced understanding of Canadian politics world events geography and history coupled with strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Instills in their team that Canadians are very interested in learning more about each other and recognizes the universal appeal of good stories.
Exhibits stellar communication and collaboration skills essential for working across diverse teams and regions.
Has a university degree or equivalent professional experience.
Is flexible to work varying hours including early mornings nights and holidays to respond to the demands of a live programming cycle.
This is a permanent full-time position based in Toronto. You are expected to be on-site most days however there is opportunity for hybrid work on occasion.
