The Strategic Initiatives and Rural Utilities (SIRU) branch under the Ministry of Affordability & Utilities is responsible for providing the Government of Alberta with sound advice interpretation and implementation of utility policy. The Branchs responsibilities include working in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders in the effective and holistic delivery of Albertas utilities system strategic objectives and related outcomes.
The Strategic Initiatives and Rural Utilities Branch is looking for a passionate and highly skilled Senior Engineering Technologist to ensure the seamless operation and oversight of essential natural gas cooperations and key players within Alberta.
Reporting to the Director of Rural Utilities and Chief Officer the Senior Engineering Technologist applies their knowledge of natural gas utilities and pipeline safety to ensure the delivery of key components of the programs of the Rural Utilities Branch in support of the Regulatory requirements in the Rural Utilities Act and Regulations as well as the Gas Distribution Act and Technical Standards Manual so that Albertas low pressure gas distribution pipelines are operating safely and reliably.
The Senior Engineering Technologist will also focus on the following duties and responsibilities:
The successful candidate will show strong analytical and communication skills to research consult facilitate and collaborate with key stakeholders on programs and legislation integral to the successful deployment of critical initiatives in Alberta. Adaptability and systems thinking are critical skills in this position to adjust to changing priorities and assignments and facilitate collaborative discussions that drive toward solutions.
