Job Summary

About the Role

Sheldon College is seeking an experienced and passionate teacher to join our Primary Academic Tutoring Program. Working closely with the Director of Primary and Assistant Director of Primary Teaching and Learning you will provide targeted literacy and numeracy support to students in Years 1 to 6 through one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions.

This role focuses on improving learning outcomes by delivering evidence-based intervention programs collaborating with classroom and Learning Enhancement teachers and tailoring lessons to meet the individual needs of each student.

You will play an important role in supporting student progress and confidence fostering a safe inclusive learning environment and contributing to the Colleges commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

Fixed-Term for 1 Year Commencing 2026
Part-time Term-Time (3 days per week)

About You

  • Registered (or eligible for registration) with the Queensland College of Teachers.
  • Proven ability to plan prepare and deliver high-quality literacy and numeracy intervention programs aligned with current curriculum and educational best practice.
  • Experience supporting students in Years 1 to 6 ideally within a primary school or tutoring environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the literacy and numeracy demands across year levels and the ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Passion for quality teaching and learning with a focus on improving student achievement through evidence-based approaches.
  • Skilled in differentiating instruction and using data to inform targeted support for individual students and small groups.
  • Committed to creating a safe inclusive and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to take risks and become self-directed learners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues students and families.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented contributing positively to the Colleges teaching and learning culture.
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety practices to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for students and staff.
  • Professional in conduct and presentation modelling the Colleges 4Cs Courtesy Consideration Cooperation and Common Sense.
  • Enthusiastic reflective and committed to ongoing professional growth.
