In meeting this mission Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal Civil Family Fraud and Consumer Protection and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Deputy Attorneys General with critical support from criminal special investigators victim service specialists paraprofessionals and administrative staff prosecute criminal cases enforce consumer laws provide counsel to state agencies ensure the publics access to open government protect the abused and much more.
Summary Statement
The Human Trafficking Unit established in 2022 by the Delaware Department of Justice is a specialized team dedicated to investigating and prosecuting cases involving forced labor and sex trafficking across the state. The unit takes a proactive victim-centered approach working closely with law enforcement agencies service providers and community partners to dismantle trafficking operations support survivors and raise public awareness. It plays a key role in identifying trafficking patterns executing search warrants and pursuing criminal charges against traffickers and those who contribute to the demand.
The Special Investigator will support the Human Trafficking Unit by conducting investigative work aimed at identifying disrupting and prosecuting trafficking operations.The position location is to be determined and may be based in New Castle Kent or Sussex County.This role involves close coordination with law enforcement partners prosecutors and victim services organizations. The Special Investigator may also be assigned to assist with investigations in other units within the Criminal Division and could be based in any of the three counties as operational needs dictate. The position may also be assigned to other investigative or operational duties in furtherance of the Department of Justices mission as outlined in 29 Del. C. 2504 which authorizes the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to investigate matters involving public peace safety and justice and to direct the activities of state detectives.
Job Requirements
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Minimum five years law enforcement experience.
- Ability to investigate complex and difficult cases both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive investigative reports for review by a Deputy Attorney General for civil and criminal complaints.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Current or recent Police Officers Standards Training (POST) certification.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) DELJIS NCIC and LEISS.
- Possession of a valid drivers license.
- Ability to qualify to carry a DOJ-issued firearm.
- Willingness to travel and attend various training opportunities as needed.
