EY UK&Is Energy Transition team services clients across the energy industry specifically utilities and organizations across the electricity value chain. We are contracted by our clients to deliver digitization modernization and decarbonization pieces of work and serve as transformation solution partners to a number of key energy organizations in the United Kingdom Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. We also support power & utility clients in delivering BAU initiatives related to grid planning operations and markets. Our offerings span: market and technology design engineering technology implementation data & analytics strategy policy and customer engagement activities in spaces such as: generation transmission & distribution operations markets retail and regulatory reporting.

As a SCADA Specialist your objective is to support the delivery of solutions that enhance monitoring control planning and operational capabilities across energy water and industrial infrastructures.

Your key responsibilities

The SCADA Specialist is expected to support current operational systems across electricity water gas and renewable energy networks while simulating future scenarios to anticipate and address challenges driven by the energy and digitisation transitions. We are seeking candidates with experience in traditional utility and infrastructure operations who also understand how evolving technologies and sector-wide transformation initiatives influence and are influenced by SCADA system strategies.

We expect the SCADA Specialist to perform activities including but not limited to:

  • Lead implementation and upgrades of SCADA systems across utility transmission and / or water sector operations ensuring timely delivery budget adherence and quality compliance.
  • Develop detailed technical specifications and requirements to support system design vendor selection and project execution.
  • Develop project and product delivery strategies aligned with clients objectives and long-term operational goals.
  • Define integration strategies for SCADA systems with IT/OT platforms including GIS DMS OMS and asset management systems tailored to sector-specific needs.
  • Oversee configuration and commissioning of telemetry infrastructure including RTUs PLCs IEDs and field devices ensuring accurate data acquisition and reliable communications.
  • Ensure robust implementation and governance of industry-standard protocols (IEC/104 DNP3 BACnet OPC UA ICCP Multi-speak Modbus Profibus etc.) across energy and water and industrial domains.
  • Collaborate with control room engineers field technicians and operations teams to ensure SCADA systems meet real-time operational needs and enhance situational awareness.
  • Design and lead execution of testing plans including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Provide expert guidance on SCADA best practices emerging technologies and innovation opportunities across energy and water sectors.
  • Act as a liaison between clients vendors and internal teams to ensure effective communication issue resolution and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with SCADA implementation and integration developing contingency plans to ensure system resilience.
  • Conduct end-user training and maintain comprehensive documentation for system operation maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Consult utility leadership to anticipate future system data and organizational needs and collaborate on roadmap vision and delivery plans.

You will play a key role in supporting the development and strengthen existing client relationships and help our clients who are leaders in the Financial Services industry navigate the complex finance issues facing their business. Skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience working with or within utilities and infrastructure operators across electricity water gas or renewables. Proven technical experience in operational technology systems and field device integration.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver technical projects with high quality regardless of team size or complexity.
  • Hands-on expertise in SCADA systems including configuration commissioning and integration with RTUs PLCs IEDs and telemetry networks.
  • Familiarity with the full lifecycle of technology implementation projectsfrom requirements gathering and design to testing deployment and support.
  • Technical competence in SCADA and related technologies supporting solutions across energy water and industrial sectors including grid management remote operations and process automation.
  • Understanding of the impact of renewable energy integration on SCADA operations including implications for data acquisition control logic and grid stability.
  • Strong analytical and data processing skills with experience translating operational data into actionable insights for control room and field operations.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols and data standards such as IEC/104 DNP3 Modbus Profibus BACnet OPC UA ICCP and CIM.
  • Experience managing the design build and test phases of SCADA and related OT applications.
  • Familiarity with technology procurement processes including requirements development vendor evaluation and contracting.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and openness to mentorship from senior engineers and subject matter experts.
