The Safety Lead on the Alkimos project is responsible for developing implementing and managing comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe working environment. This role involves conducting risk assessments investigating incidents providing safety training and ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. The Safety Lead works closely with management and staff to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
The Project
The project includes the design construction operation and maintenance of the plant with first production in 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels seawater intake system a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant groundwater system drinking water storage and pump system supported by civil electrical and bulk earthworks.
Key accountabilities for the position:
- Implement health and safety auditing as a monitoring strategy to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Develop and embed evolving WHS/OHS strategies that integrate with business operations and enhance performance.
- Simplify safety management systems to align with changes in organizational structure and risk appetite.
- Conduct regular risk reviews and use data-driven analysis to evaluate and prioritize risks and opportunities.
- Apply scenario-based management to mitigate crises and build organizational resilience through systematic risk analysis.
- Identify and document evidence to support legal defense in incident cases and assess the financial impact of incidents.
- Promote wellbeing by encouraging healthy lifestyle choices supporting mental health and fostering collaborative contractor relationships.
- Maintain strategic oversight of safety planning advocate for inclusivity and lead change through clear vision and goal-setting.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Skilled in designing and implementing WHS/OHS strategies that align with evolving business needs and improve operational performance.
- Experienced in simplifying and adapting safety systems to reflect changes in organisational structure and risk appetite.
- Proficient in risk analysis prioritisation and scenario-based planning to manage crises and build resilience.
