Overview
StFX Universityis seeking dependable hard-working applicantsfor casual grounds crew within the University to assist with winter conditions maintenance including snow and ice removal across campus.
Salary is in accordance with the UNIFOR collective agreement. IA1 rate is $19.31/hour.
Variable as needed working hours (days evenings/nights weekends). Applications from students are welcomed and encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
- The need is weather dependent and therefore an on-call expectation. Hours of work would not be routine.
- This position is physically demanding. Extensive kneeling bending standing lifting and squatting required.
- Must be physically fit; work is outdoors and often during inclement weather.
- Clearing walkways building entrances stairways and emergency exitsto maintain safe access.
- Snow removalby shovel and/or snow blower.
- Ice removal including spreading salt the use of chipping tools and other manual methods.
- Assisting with refilling salt bins moving materials etc.
- Reporting unsafe conditions or equipment issues to the supervisor.
- Other duties as assignedrelated to grounds maintenance during winter conditions.
- Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment CSA winter safety boots (STFX can provide loaners if necessary) and to dress appropriately for winter conditions.
Qualifications
- Previous recent and related experience is beneficial but not necessary.A one-hour orientation will be provided to successful candidates.
- Must be reliable punctual and available on short noticeduring snow or ice events.
- Strong work ethicand willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in cold wet and windy conditions.
- Ability to take direction and work with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
