Job Summary

Position Information


Support the Honolulu Police Department by managing payroll and grant accounting with precision and integrity.


TheHonolulu Police DepartmentFinance Division is hiring two (2)Senior Account Clerks in Honolulu. These positions play an important role in ensuring the accuracy integrity and maintenance of the departments financial records and accounting systems.

What You Will Do:
  • Work with federal and state law enforcement grants including the Department of Justice Homeland Security and asset forfeiture programs.
  • Verify and reconcile payroll documents and reports to ensure compliance with City directives and federal grant conditions.
  • Audit payrolls premium pay and overtime to ensure expenditures meet grant requirements.
  • Process fund transfers drawdowns and adjustments for grant-related transactions in accordance with federal guidelines.
  • Maintain accounting ledgers journals and summaries of revenue collections expenditures and other grant-related financial data.
  • Compile and prepare fiscal and statistical reports for management and grant agencies.
  • Perform other duties sand responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four (4) years of clerical experience three (3) years of which shall have been in account record keeping work.

This experience must demonstrate the ability to:
  • Maintain fiscal accounts and records;
  • Prepare financial reports and statements;
  • Interpret fiscal records and data;
  • Compare names and numbers for accuracy;
  • Operate calculating and adding machines typewriters and standard office equipment;
  • Follow oral and written instructions; and
  • Work harmoniously with others.

Substitution:

  1. An Associate degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of clerical experience and up to one year of account record keeping experience.
  2. A Bachelors degree in Accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting or auditing courses of which six must be above the elementary course level and from a regionally-accredited four-year college or universitywill substitute for ALL of the required experience.

The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education proper documentation e.g. a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.

As part of the hiring process you may be asked to furnish documentation to verify your education to satisfy this education qualification requirement.
