Job Description:

The HSE Specialist reports to Site HSE Manager and is responsible for assisting in the development implementation of the site Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) activities as part of the overall deployment of the regional HSE program. Through the development of an overall Safety Security and Environmental Management System Mars has embedded this value into the organization. The site Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist plays an essential role in this management system through hands-on execution of the Global/ Regional HSE Standards fostering a robust HSE culture and driving associate involvement.

Incumbent will assist with execution of HSE activities in full alignment with the site HSE Manager and in compliance with federal state local and Mars requirements. The site HSE Specialist works with the Site HSE

manager and collaborates with other site representatives to ensure the overall corporate HSE strategy is refined for the site and executed minimizing the Companys general liability and exposure to safety environmental compliance and security risks. Further understanding of key business drivers and its relation to the role is equally important.

What are we looking for

Bachelors degree (or higher) in science (ex. engineering safety IH etc.) is preferred.

Ability to interact with site level manufacturing/business management and regulatory agencies is required

Strong written and verbal communication skills including a high level of comfort developing and delivering training and motivational presentations to all levels of associates is a must.

1-5 years experience managing safety and environmental programs or projects in a manufacturing environment or school related program

Basic knowledge of food manufacturing and GMP a plus.

Demonstrated leadership in driving a program/system of safety or environmental in a manufacturing environment.

Experience with hazard recognition behavioral-based safety job hazard analysis is desired.

Experience in management of Security function is a plus.

What will be your key responsibilities

Ensure Site maintains continuous audit ready state of compliance with company and governmental

HSE Standards.

Responsible for the development deployment of all company HSE Standards as they specifically apply

to the site.

Accountable for the execution of all site environmental compliance programs including air stormwater

water spill control and wastewater. Ensures all testing required by company standards are met on

time.

Executes proper management of the sites hazardous waste management activities to ensure compliance

with federal state local and company regulations and standards.

Develop and deploy the site specific HSE programs and plans to position the site as a best in class

organization.

Delivers training and coaching to establish clear understanding / engagement by all site associates on

HSE expectations.

Ensures investigation of all HSE related incidents utilizing specific tools to drive to root cause and

identify actions to prevent recurrence. Drives completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent

incident recurrence are effectively implemented this includes execution of corrective actions developed

from other site incidents.

Serves in conjunction with site HSE Manager as a HSE technical expert providing technical

expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function to include capital project review

and risks management associated with non-capital modifications.

Ability to influence where direct lines of authority do not exist.

Leads and ensures the site emergency response team (ERT) has the tools skills and knowledge to

effectively respond to site HSE emergencies.

Leads site efforts to measure and improve Industrial Hygiene Risk. This includes but is not limited to: Ergonomics dust noise and chemical exposure. Coordinates all necessary IH and audiometric monitoring.

Owns the overall site Contractor Safety program to reduce risk associate with construction and trade contactor activity. Ensures project managers are accountable for proper management of contactors.

Assists with execution of site security requirements in order to meet corporate standards and with the oversight of security operations on the site. This includes management of contract security providers.

Supports the Mars Global Security Program by implementing standards and best practices.

Manage Risk Management activities associated with asset conservation and property loss control. Drives timely corrective actions to third party loss risk assessments and audits.

Works with third party risk control experts to ensure compliance with company standards on new projects. Supports audit efforts to maintain and improve favorable insurance ratings.

Ability and willingness to flex work hours to support the site needs Including night and weekend hours

Backup coverage for site HSE Manager as required.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below however base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge skills and total compensation package for this position will include variable pay medical and dental benefits participation in 401k plan and paid time off of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.

The pay range listed is applicable to IL:USD 78037.00 - USD 107311.00
