Job Summary

The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is hiring an EU Policy Advocate/Lead to lead FLIs research and enforcement efforts related to general-purpose AI under EU laws. The EU Policy Advocate/Lead will report directly to the Head of EU Policy and Research.

FLI educates and engages lawmakers key stakeholders and the general public about transformative technologies and their implications. We advocate for policies and approaches that mitigate catastrophic risks while advancing positive futures for humanity.

As EU Policy Advocate/Lead you will:

    • Lead FLIs efforts to support EU enforcement related to general-purpose AI especially through legal research and analysis of key issues in AI policy.
    • Support the capacity of the EU AI Office in Brussels and EU capitals elevating and translating AI Office output for a non-Brussels audience.
    • Coordinate resource sharing and lead relationship-building with other civil society organisations.

Required qualifications:

    • 2 - 10 Years relevant experience
    • Fluency in English both written and oral.
    • Eligibility to work in the EU either based in Brussels (strong preference) or able to travel to Brussels regularly.
    • Experience in EU politics/policy or understanding of how policies are passed in the EU institutions and Member State governments.
    • Masters degree or above in Law or related disciplines.

Skills and qualities required:

    • Strong experience related to enforcement of EU law.
    • Sharp strategic planner who can anticipate the likely risks and outcomes of multi-stage projects.
    • Strong autonomy pro-activity and work ethic with ability to work independently on solo projects over extended periods.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex information to non-expert audiences.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting partnerships.

Preferred qualifications and skills:

    • An existing network within EU institutions and Member States.
    • Understanding of the technical capabilities and limitations of AI systems.
75000 - 135000 a year
Exact compensation will vary depending on experience and geography.
