Job Summary

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and one year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

  • Meet the Department of Homeland Securitys requirements for Designation School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO).
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in International Education Higher Education Administration Student Affairs Counseling or a related field.
  • One to two years of experience advising international students in a higher education setting.
  • Prior experience working in an ISSS office or with SEVIS-related compliance and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. immigration regulations especially F-1 and J-1 visa categories.
  • Experience with SEVIS batch processing systems (e.g. Sunapsis Terra Dotta ISSM etc.) and federal compliance reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex immigration regulations in a clear and supportive manner.
  • Empathy patience and a student-centered advising philosophy.

The ISSS Department is seeking(1)International Student Advisor to join the already awesome team taking them to the next level of excellence!

The International Student Advisor (ISA) provides in person and virtual student advising related to F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations and University policies and deadlines using compliance software to maintain appropriate documentation communication and student support. The advisor works collaboratively with various admissions offices to issue initial attendance and transfer I-20s to newly admitted international students and helps manage onboarding communication processes and support for incoming students. The ISA will utilize the Sunapsis immigration compliance software and Banner system to review student requests run relevant reports issue documents and manage their daily work. The ISA works as part of the student advising team in ISSS to educate international students on their immigration status and regulations and to assist them in meeting their academic and personal goals.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

Collaborate with admissions offices to support newly admitted students by issuing initial attendance and transfer I-20s.

Provide expert immigration advice and guidance regarding maintenance of status and employment benefits such as Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Optional Practical Training (OPT) and STEM OPT extensions to GSUs F-1 and J-1 students via phone email and in-person.

Liaise with various GSU departments and federal offices when students have complex immigration issues.

Advise and assist students on finding solutions to immigration issues as they arise.

Conduct workshops and presentations as needed on immigration benefits and applications.

Use Banner Sunapsis and SEVIS to report information solve problems and gather needed data.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
