Job Summary

The mission of the Office for Public Good Strategy and Research (OPG) is to advance institutional readiness for collaboration among students staff faculty and community partners for public good discovery. The OPG is situated in Academic Affairs which embodies DUs public good vision by advancing collaboration that supports intellectual inquiry integrative learning and public good discovery. Of the four academic areas that are core to Academic Affairs OPG programs and initiatives contribute directly to 1) Public Good Strategy and Research and 2) High Impact Practices (HIPs). The OPG includes programs centers and initiatives to advance transdisciplinary collaboration through community engagement signature work regeneration leadership and health strategies. OPG programs centers and initiatives apply DUs four-dimensional (4D) experience to key strategies to emphasize the scholarship of discovery teaching integration and application (intellectual growth) civic health (wellness) public identity development (character) and the importance of the liberal arts for public problem solving (careers and lives of purpose).

Position Summary

DUs Learning Cohorts prepare undergraduate students to contribute to the public good by connecting their learning across academic and co-curricular experiences with a cohort of peers. Through a combination of curricular and co-curricular experiences and individualized mentoring each student will 1) identify a complex issue or problem that is of genuine importance to them revealing their intellectual and vocational interests; and 2) map their issue and interests to subsequent general education and major/minor requirements and co-curricular experiences through an Action Plan. The Learning Cohort Faculty Mentor supports students integrative learning and action plan development as part of a Learning Cohort on health.

Essential Functions

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Oversee planning for the two-quarter sequence of Learning Cohort classes ensuring the course sequence design advances program learning objectives;
  • Teach two 1-credit Sprints in Winter and Spring quarters;
  • Promote student integrative learning across curricular and co-curricular experiences in collaboration with a Graduate Mentor and
  • Manager of Learning Cohorts;
  • Mentor and support the professional development of the Graduate Mentor;
  • Collaborate with relevant campus partners for student success;
  • Contribute to recruiting and program evaluation efforts;
  • Advise students in related minor/certificate as needed.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning practices in higher education.
  • Knowledge of relevant content and student development principles.
  • Understanding of inclusive equitable and culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Understanding of mentorship best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building supportive mentoring relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the mentor team and students from a variety of disciplines.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral or terminal degree in content area relevant to the Learning Cohort theme
  • Current DU employee (faculty or staff) with content expertise in the relevant Learning Cohort issue area
  • Experience teaching undergraduates
  • Experience mentoring students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in holistic student learning experiences in and out of classroom
  • Experience in managing learning programs for undergraduates

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The stipend for AY25-26 is $7740.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
