Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Anatomy Biochemistry and Physiology JABSOM University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) seeks a Cardiovascular researcher to support the Departments basic science and translational research in cardiovascular diseases and to support the teaching/mentoring mission of the JABSOM. Duties at the JABSOM will include:

Teaching: 20%

  • Teach courses and mentor undergraduate and graduate students medical students and residents according to department needs and priorities.
  • Serve as a tutor in Problem Based Learning (PBL) tutorial(s).
Research: 60%
  • Participate in and support of existing research interests while developing own laboratory and translational research interests.
  • Collaborate with other principal investigators engaged in various aspects of cardiovascular research.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals in the field of cardiovascular disease.
  • Other scholarly activities as assigned.
Service: 20%
  • Serve committees for the department school and/or University.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to participating in community engagement activities separately or in conjunction with the Department of Anatomy Biochemistry and Physiology.
Minimum Qualifications (Assistant Professor)
  1. Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in the field of Biosciences or a closely related field such as Biomedical Sciences Molecular Biology Physiology or Biochemistry from a college or university of recognized standing.
  2. Two (2) years of postdoctoral research experience.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge in cardiovascular research with a strong research aptitude and publication record.
  4. Demonstrated ability to obtain independent extramural research funding.
  5. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  7. Demonstrated professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated research interest and/or expertise in the immunologic/inflammatory aspects of cardiovascular diseases.
  2. Published research findings as the first author in high quality peer-reviewed journals in the field of cardiovascular research.
  3. Demonstrated extensive experience in cardiovascular physiology biochemistry or anatomy.
  4. Previous experience providing lectures for undergraduate graduate or medical students.
  5. Previous experience serving as a tutor in small group teaching in medical education like PBL.
