Job Summary

Under frequent supervision the Lead Anesthesia Technician is a multi-skilled individual who assists the anesthesiologist with preparation and set up of appropriate equipment and supplies for each surgical case in the Operating Rooms (ORs) and satellite areas patient positioning maintaining and stocking anesthesia inventory and assisting during the intraoperative phase. Patients served include infant through older adult. Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to Nurse Manager of Operating Room or designee.


Qualifications :

  1. High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  2. CPR (Required)
  3. Five years of clinical healthcare experience as an Anesthesia Tech (Required)
  4. Anesthesia Tech Certification (Preferred)
  5. Certification as Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Anesthesia Tech / Licensure / BLS CPR Certification (Required);
  6. One year experience as an Anesthesia Technician or equivalent or prior experience as a Patient Care Technician.

Working Conditions

Works inside a clean well-lighted environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials such as chemicals and cleaning agents requiring the observation of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.

Responsibilities

Under the frequent supervision of the Clinical Coordinator and /or the Anesthesiologist. The Technician is a multi-skilled individual who assists the anesthesiologist with patient care positioning maintaining and stocking inventory and assisting during the intraoperative phase. Responsible for assisting the Anesthesiologist with the maintenance calibration and inspection of anesthesia machines and equipment. Maintenance and documentation service records when appropriate. Cleans all anesthesia equipment and instruments prior to and after use and provides decontamination services for carts blades fiber optics and anesthesia machines Completes testing and documentation log for fiber optic scope washer and assures soda lime canisters are changed in accordance with established protocols. Coordinates levels of stock and supplies and ensure appropriate locations within department are stocked at established par levels. Patients served include infant through Geriatrics.

Physical Requirements

Standing sitting bending and walking is required three (3) to five (5) hours/shift. Involves heavy lifting carrying pushing and pulling of patients and equipment weighing in excess of one hundred (100) lbs in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Fingering reaching for grasping and handling equipment/supplies zero (0) to three (3) hours/shift. Requires hearing/listening to differentiate sounds three (3) to five (5) hours/shift. Visual acuity is necessary to read charts document and use various instruments/equipment zero (0) to three (3) hours/shift. Requires appropriate listening and speaking skills to converse with patients staff visitors and physicians zero (0) to three (3) hours/shift.
