Your Opportunity

The role of Senior Data Engineer in the CTG Data & Analytics platforms team at KPMG Australia involves designing building and optimising modern data platforms with a focus on Microsoft Fabric. This position plays a critical role in developing Enterprise Data Platform ingestion frameworks and patterns to support advanced analytics and business intelligence. Responsibilities include ensuring scalability security and performance for various business unit use cases as well as contributing to the creation of centralised data agents API end points for Data objects in MS Fabric to drive the firms data strategy.

The key requirements for a Senior Data Engineer role in the context of designing and implementing end-to-end data solutions using Microsoft Fabric while ensuring data quality security and governance include:

  1. Expertise in Data Platform build:
    • Proficiency in tools like MS Fabric/Databricks including OneLake Delta Lakehouse architecture Data Factory PySpark and Power BI to design and implement scalable data solutions.
    • Experience in building and optimising data ingestion pipelines for structured semi-structured and unstructured data.
  2. Data Quality Assurance:
    • Develop and implement robust data validation and cleansing processes.
    • Use metadata-driven reusable frameworks for data processing and orchestration.
    • Designed and Build Patterns for Entity resolution Quality Tagging to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  3. Data Security:
    • Implement role-based access control (RBAC) encryption and compliance with enterprise security standards.
    • Regularly audit and monitor access logs to detect and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  4. Data Governance and Lineage:
    • Implement enterprise-wide governance policies including data classification ownership and stewardship defined by Data Governance team.
    • Use tools like Microsoft Purview for managing and governing data assets.
    • Implement automated lineage tracking to ensure transparency and traceability of data flows.
  5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Partner with business stakeholders data analysts reporting team and data scientists to deliver trusted datasets.
    • Foster a data-centric culture by training stakeholders on governance practises and the importance of data integrity.
  6. Performance Optimisation:
    • Lead performance tuning and cost optimisation for Microsoft Fabric environments.
    • Design scalable architectures to handle growing data volumes and complex analytics use cases.
  7. DevOps and Automation:
    • Drive the adoption of modern DevOps CI/CD and automation practises within data engineering workflows.
  8. Mentorship and Leadership:
    • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the data engineering community of practise.

  • Proven experience (10 years) in data engineering cloud data platforms and analytics solutions.
  • Hands-on expertise with Microsoft Fabric or Databricks including OneLake Lakehouse Data Factory Synapse and Power BI integration.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL PySpark and data modeling (dimensional lakehouse and semantic models).
  • Experience implementing data governance cataloging and lineage frameworks.
  • Familiarity with metadata-driven frameworks and automation patterns.
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT streaming batch data pipelines and API-based ingestion.
  • Solid grasp of data security compliance and access management.
  • Exposure to Azure ecosystem (Azure Data Lake Databricks Purview Azure DevOps) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Prior experience in large-scale enterprise data transformation programs
  • Experience working in Agile delivery models.

Qualifications :

We are looking for applicants that have:

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g. Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate Azure Data Engineer Associate).
