Provides clinical nursing expertise in areas of care practice consultation interdisciplinary collaboration and specialty program development for a defined patient population. Works with clinical team to facilitate quality patient care across the continuum. Develops and coordinates educational opportunities that promote professional nursing practice. Fulfills all the duties of the registered nurse profile

*Degree from accredited academic nursing program (If a program is under conditional status approval may be granted by system CNO)
*State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License or Graduate Nurse Permit required Academic Preparation:
*Certified Lactation Counselor or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
*Maintain Certification and CEs appropriate for a Lactation Counselor or IBCLC.
*Register with the NM Board of Nursing Lactation Care Providers.

Responsibilities:
*Teach childbirth education classes
*Teach prenatal breastfeeding classes
*Providing one on one breastfeeding education to new mothers during their hospital stay
*Answering calls regarding breastfeeding.
*Providing post-discharge breastfeeding consultation to new mothers.
*Assists with the development implementation and education of staff with Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative
*Assists with reporting monthly statistics for Baby Friendly Shaken Baby Syndrome
*Assists with patient care as required
