Austal USA is seeking a Project Coordinator direction in support of the planning and production of the Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program. Austal is the proud builder of the stage 2 OPC design with the first OPC now under construction and award of future cutters already in planning and procurement. This role is responsible for providing guidance and direction across multiple craft disciplines engineering planning and quality personnel. This role will also have direct interaction with customer personnel and governing body representatives. The ideal candidate will have cross function experience across multiple craft and project teams. Previous Coast Guard construction experience is preferred but not required.

REPORTS TO: Project Manager
SUPERVISES: Functional Leads indirectly. Steps up when Project Manager is off-site
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide coordination guidance and direction to the functional project leads to ensure that the work being performed enables successful and efficient construction of the vessel with focus on milestone achievement and cost and schedule performance
Teach mentor or advise lower level Coordinators
Coordinate mediate and resolve craft specific production work sequence conflicts related to constraints that effect performance to cost and schedule
Maintain a daily presence regarding the work in progress to monitor safety housekeeping and work progress and staff performance
Conduct and attend meetings as required.
Ensure the work in progress is in accordance with the published schedule sequence and that the production schedules are reasonable and achievable
Perform random validation of status reporting against the actual work being performed to ensure accuracy of reporting functions required to support Earned Value Management processes and requirements.
Ensure compliance with Quality procedures and documents
Monitor and ensure compliance with the contract requirements
Monitor and ensure required compliance with regulatory body and classification society guides rules and regulations
Maintain daily communication and interaction with the Project Manager to report status and issues and have the ability to initiate and follow through with required variance analysis and associated corrective action plans
Monitor and validate resource requirements for actuals against planned work in progress
Monitor and validate use of rework and lessons learned processes and initiatives to maintain and promote continuous improvement
Support executive briefings meetings tours and reporting as requested by the Project Manager

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk use hands to manipulate handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb and balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
Specific physical requirements include the following:
Must have the ability to bend squat stoop crawl and kneel.
Perform prolonged standing.
Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.
Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis.
Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis.
Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.
Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs scaffolding ladders and ramps).
Ability to work at heights above 12 while working from ladders scaffolding and/or man lifts.
Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist eye overhead).
Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.
Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat safety glasses steel-toes shoes goggles respirator safety harness safety line flotation gear etc.) safely per OSHA standards.
Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
Ability to enter 18 x 36 openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead reaching out reaching to the side and reaching down.
Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size shape temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.

Fully competent in industry related crafts or disciplines
Ability to read and interpret shipbuilding contracts and specifications
Ability to read and interpret regulatory body and classification society guides rules and regulations
Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and data and navigate with applicable software
Minimum 5 years experience in a ship building ship repair or similar construction and manufacturing industrial type environment with a minimum 3 years experience at a Foreman level (or equivalent) OR minimum 2 years as a Level II Project Coordinator.
College degree in relevant field preferred
Ability to use and interpret relevant cost and schedule (EVMS) data and use applicable software associated with these reporting functions
Have a working knowledge and past experience with EVMS principles and processes
Ability to understand schedule reporting tools and be competent in maintaining and validating schedule related data
Competent in use of Microsoft Office (Word Outlook and Excel) and PowerPoint software
Ability to work independently and be self motivated
Willingness to work irregular and sometimes lengthy work schedule
This position will involve considerable time (as much as 100%) onboard the vessel at various degrees of construction going up and down staircases and vertical ladders at heights reaching in excess of 75 feet in temperatures which at times can reach extreme levels.
