Key duties include preparing financial statements reconciling accounts managing budgets and payroll and handling tax preparation. Accountants also provide financial advice to help businesses make strategic decisions and improve profitability.

Core responsibilities

Financial record-keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records including the general ledger and financial statements.

Financial reporting: Prepare monthly quarterly and annual financial reports such as balance sheets and income statements.

Reconciliation: Reconcile bank statements and resolve any discrepancies in financial records.

Budget and forecast: Develop and manage budgets and forecasts and monitor cash flow.

Taxation: Prepare and file tax returns ensuring timely payment and identify opportunities for tax savings.

Auditing: Conduct internal audits and assist with external audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Compliance: Ensure all financial activities comply with relevant laws regulations and accounting principles (e.g. GAAP).

Payroll: Manage payroll functions including calculating wages allowances and deductions.

Strategic and advisory duties

Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends risks and opportunities.

Strategic guidance: Provide financial advice and strategic recommendations to management on issues like cost reduction profit enhancement and financial planning.

System improvement: Help create and implement new accounting systems and procedures.

Risk assessment: Perform financial risk assessments and recommend solutions to mitigate risks.

Required Skills:

Work experience as an Accountant. Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Hands-on experience with accounting software like FreshBooks and QuickBooks. Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
