Job Description
The Animal Control Officer I and II will be provided training to ensure all animals are in good health properly fed watered and issued any required medication. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a disease-free living environment by disinfecting cages. The officers that are assigned to field operations will work with local authorities when responding to citizen complaints of stray vicious sick injured or diseased animals.
Animal Control Officer I Essential Duties
- Assisting with maintaining various records on animals up to and including processing intakes and adoptions reviewing and upkeeping of medical charts and records keeping records on animals held for court cases.
- Maintaining logs on all diseases medications and treatments as required by state and federal regulations.
- Assisting with investigating cruelty and abandonment of domestic animals and livestock.
- Working closely with senior officers to gather information used to prosecute violators.
- Assisting field officers in unloading checking in and relocating animals in the shelter.
- Assisting the public with touring the shelter for lost or adoptable animals.
- Assisting with investigating reported bite cases.
- Assisting in conducting rabies quarantine checks and verify quarantine requirements are met.
- Assisting in the decapitation preparation and transportation of specimens to the state lab for testing.
- Assisting in euthanizing animals and other functions assigned to the euthanasia laboratory.
Animal Control Officer II Essential Duties
- Officers assigned to field operations may be responding to citizen complaints of stray vicious sick injured or diseased animals. Working with local authorities on impound needs issuing citations and providing courtroom testimony.
- Maintaining various records on animals up to and including processing intakes and adoptions reviewing and upkeeping of medical charts and records and court cases as needed.
- May be investigating cruelty and abandonment of domestic animals and livestock. May be working with local authorities to prosecute violators.
- Unloading checking in and relocating animals in the shelter. Conducting intake activities on animals.
- Investigating reported bite cases. Conducting rabies quarantine checks and verifying quarantine requirements are met. Decapitating preparing and transporting specimens to the state lab for testing.
- Euthanizing animals and participating in other functions assigned to the euthanasia laboratory. Preparing daily records of euthanasia solution usage for the State Department of Agriculture.
- Providing informational tours to schools and various community groups.
- Ensuring inventory supplies are stocked and up to date.
Public Speaking Duties- May assist in adoption and/or outreach events
Other Job Requirements/Information
- This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours weekends and/or holidays.
Animal Control Officer I
The grade for is A12(3) with a salary range of $36633 - $41669. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Pre-exposure Rabies vaccine or current titer completed within 6 months of employment
- Valid drivers license
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
- Proficient in English communication capable of clear and professional verbal and written expression
Animal Control Officer II
The grade for is B21(3) with a salary range of $43238 - $49723. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One year of animal control experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Valid drivers license
- Euthanasia training
- Asp Baton Certificate
- Current Rabies Titer
- Defensive Driving Certificate
- Basic Chemical Capture training
- Crematory training
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
- Proficient in English communication capable of clear and professional verbal and written expression
