The Seasonal Forestry Maintenance position will assist with the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs to ensure safe healthy and welcoming natural areas. This position supports arboricultural work invasive plant management and general preserve maintenance while contributing to conservation goals.
What Youll Do
- Assist with pruning and removal of trees and shrubs as directed by forestry staff.
- Support forestry operations including arboricultural tasks nursery care stream clearing and turf restoration.
- Operate and perform basic maintenance on forestry tools and equipment.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for vegetation management.
- Help identify and control invasive plant species within natural areas.
- Follow all safety procedures and support a clean organized and hazard-free work environment.
- Work collaboratively with staff and provide excellent service to internal and external partners.
- Perform other duties as needed to support forestry and preserve maintenance efforts.
What Youll Need
- 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
- Previous experience in forestry maintenance landscaping or related field preferred.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments.
- Proficiency in using basic forestry tools and equipment.
Schedule & Pay
- Monday through Friday. 6:45 am. - 2:45 pm.
- This position starts around April/May of 2026 and works for approximately 12 weeks.
- $17 - 18 per hour
Work Setting
- Position is based out of the Grounds Management Office inside of Blackwell Forest Preserve and requires frequent travel to Forest Preserve sites across the district.
- Safety Toe Boots are required and reimbursable. Packed lunch and water are required.
