The Seasonal Landscape positions supports grounds maintenance activities that keep preserves and facilities safe clean and welcoming for visitors. This role includes operating equipment maintaining outdoor spaces and assisting with preservation-focused landscaping practices
What Youll Do
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers trimmers and a variety of power and hand tools.
- Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing trimming weeding litter removal and edging.
- Assist with tasks such as soil and compost installation to support healthy landscapes.
- Help maintain facility appearance through cleaning duties including garbage removal and gutter upkeep.
- Support daily opening and closing procedures for preserves and facilities.
- May assist with volunteer events and special programs including setup and takedown.
- Follow all safety protocols and help maintain a clean organized and hazard-free workspace.
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to provide excellent service and ensure positive visitor experiences.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support grounds operations.
What Youll Need
- 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing.
- Prior experience in landscape maintenance and turf management including the operation of lawnmowers and trimmers is preferred.
- Proficiency in the identification of native and invasive flora.
- Familiarity with common grounds maintenance equipment including mowers and trimmers.
- Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor tasks.
- Skill in maintaining effective relationships with colleagues and team members.
Schedule & Pay
- Monday through Friday. 6:45 am. - 2:45 pm.
- This position starts around April/May of 2026 and works for approximately 12 weeks.
- $17 - 18 per hour
Work Setting
- Position is based out of the Grounds Management Office inside of Blackwell Forest Preserve and requires frequent travel to Forest Preserve sites across the district.
- Safety Toe Boots are required and reimbursable. Packed lunch and water is required.
