RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal Quebec the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
Under the supervision of the Lead SAIL and CTB Business Relations at the RI-MUHC and in accordance with institutional policies the incumbent is responsible for the daily operations and technical management of the Small Animal Imaging Laboratory.
The incumbent will oversee and coordinate all imaging activities across multiple preclinical modalities including ultrasound DXA X-ray MRI PET/CT SPECT/CT optical and fluorescent imaging while ensuring compliance with institutional animal care and biosafety standards.
This position involves substantial hands-on animal imaging work resource and staff coordination scheduling billing and liaison with other technology platforms. The incumbent ensures that the facility operates efficiently supports both internal and external research projects and maintains the highest standards of animal welfare and data quality.
General Duties
Operational Management
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Small Animal Imaging Laboratory ensuring all equipment and imaging rooms are maintained in optimal condition
Manage scheduling of imaging sessions personnel and instrument time for internal and external users
Coordinate with other CTB platforms to support multi-platform research workflows
Track and process billing for imaging studies supplies and services
Maintain accurate records of equipment use project logs and animal imaging activities.
Animal Imaging and Experimental Support
Perform or supervise animal imaging procedures using modalities such as ultrasound DXA X-ray MRI PET/CT SPECT/CT optical and fluorescent imaging
Conduct or oversee anesthesia induction maintenance and monitoring during imaging sessions
Ensure proper post-procedure care and animal welfare in accordance with approved Animal Use Protocols (AUPs)
Assist in the development and optimization of imaging protocols in collaboration with research teams
Train and supervise users in animal imaging techniques instrument operation and data acquisition best practices.
Compliance and Documentation
Ensure that all imaging activities comply with institutional and regulatory requirements (CCAC CAL biosafety radiation safety)
Support preparation amendment and renewals of AUPs as related to imaging studies
Maintain and update SOPs related to animal handling imaging equipment and safety protocols.
Client and Research Support
Serve as a primary point of contact for investigators using SAIL services
Coordinate onboarding of new users and assist with study setup imaging workflow planning and data management
Collaborate with internal researchers external academic and industry partners to facilitate project execution and data delivery.
Equipment and Resource Management
Oversee maintenance and calibration of imaging equipment in coordination with vendors and service providers
Monitor inventory of consumables contrast agents and imaging supplies
Recommend and assist with implementation of new technologies or workflow improvements.

Education:
PhD or MSc in Life Sciences Biomedical Engineering Medical Physics or related discipline.
Work Experience:
Minimum 23 years of hands-on experience in small animal imaging using one or more of the following: MRI PET/CT SPECT/CT ultrasound DXA X-ray or optical/fluorescence systems.
Demonstrated experience with animal handling anesthesia and preclinical study execution.
Familiarity with multimodal data acquisition and reconstruction workflows.
Previous experience in an academic or core facility environment is a strong asset.
Strong organizational and time-management skills ability to manage multiple studies simultaneously
Excellent communication skills in English and French both spoken and written
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic data management software
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
Commitment to high standards of animal welfare safety and scientific integrity.
Status : Temporary Full-Time (35-hour workweek) 12-month contract
Pay Scale: $62389.60 - $115824.80 Commensurate with education & work experience.
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm
