Job Description

Metro State University a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor and Director of Simulation Learning. This is a full-time probationary (tenure-track) position within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Department of Nursing and will start on August 17th 2026.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences provides innovative programs in the areas of nursing health systems dental therapy and dental hygiene. We promote educational advancement through uniquely designed programs community partnerships scholarly activities and academic excellence guided by our mission to prepare students to enhance the health of under-served and diverse populations upon graduation. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is located on the St. Paul campus in St. Paul Minnesota.

Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of policies procedures and practice for attaining and maintaining accreditation of the Nursing Simulation Center.
  • Lead the development of evaluations for simulation learning for individual simulations and simulations within programs.
  • Develop and implement simulation curriculum across programs.
  • Support faculty orientation and development of expertise in utilizing simulation-based learning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach nursing courses in the BSN ELMSN DNP and/or groups of varied nursing student populations to maximize simulation learning for nursing students and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning.
  • Engage in scholarly activity creative achievement and/or research.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.

Salary Range:

$64066.00 - $186015.00

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a masters degree in the specified discipline(s) with enrollment in a doctoral program for fields in which the doctoral degree is the terminal degree. Doctoral program must be successfully completed within 5 years to meet the requirement for tenure.
  • Eligibility for unencumbered Minnesota RN licensure. Licensure in Minnesota must be obtained prior to start date.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant professional level experience in simulation education.
  • Minimum of four years professional clinical experience and/or teaching experience as a registered nurse.
  • Demonstrated interest in faculty position that prioritizes teaching and emphasizes teaching excellence.
  • A plan for scholarly activity creative achievement and/or research in the specified discipline(s) or related disciplines.
  • Effective communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with students and colleagues who are culturally economically and linguistically diverse.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A completed terminal degree in the specified discipline(s). PhD in nursing or DNP or doctoral degree in a closely related discipline such as EdD or Public Health.
  • Experience managing and/or leading nursing simulation experiences across programs (virtual/high fidelity/etc.).
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
  • At least 3 years of experience in:
    • Simulation-based education and training
    • Evaluation of outcomes patient safety and implementation of innovative simulation-based education and training programs
    • Curriculum development and assessment for adult learners.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness teaching using simulation at a post-secondary level.
  • Experience developing course curricula utilizing a variety of simulation at a post-secondary institution.
  • Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.
  • Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy anti-racist pedagogy and/or universal design.
  • Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.
