Job Summary

We are seeking skilled Physical Therapy Assistants to join our actively growing Home Health Team with territories in St. Louis City and County St. Charles County Warren Lincoln Franklin and Jefferson Counties. Cooperative Home Care is a locally owned and operated home care company with a referral-heavy Home Health division. We are looking for physical therapy assistants to cover the clients under a physical therapist in a set territory: company car and gas card are provided. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physical therapy assistance and be passionate about helping clients recover from surgeries injuries and other physically compromising events to improve their overall physical and mental well-being. Pay is calculated per visit.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of the Physical Therapist Assistant includes: a licensed Physical Therapist shall be accessible by telephone to the Physical Therapist Assistant at all times while the Physical Therapist Assistant is treating patients.
  • Supervision of the Physical Therapist Assistant also includes: on-site supervision shall take place every four to six visits. The supervisory visits may be made either when the Physical Therapist Assistant is present so that the supervisor may observe and assist or when the Physical Therapist Assistant is absent so that the supervisor may assess relationships and determine whether goals are being met. Supervision does not constitute treatment.
  • Supervision of the Physical Therapist Assistant also includes: the supervisory visit includes a complete on-site functional assessment and on-site review of activities with appropriate revision of treatment plan and an assessment of the utilization of outside resources.
  • Be directed by and under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Administer the physical therapy program as established by the Physical Therapist.
  • Administer non-complex active and passive manual therapeutic exercises therapeutic massage traction heat light cold water and electrical modalities to patients with relatively stable conditions.
  • Instruct motivate and assist patients in learning and improving functional activities such as perambulation transfers ambulation and activities of daily living.
  • Observe patients progress and response to treatment and report to the Physical Therapist.
  • Confer with members of the health care team for planning modifying and coordinating treatment programs.
  • Observe patients during treatments to compile and evaluate data on their responses and progress and provide results to physical therapist in person or through progress notes.
  • Confer with physical therapy staff or others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning modifying or coordinating treatment.
  • Transport patients to and from treatment areas lifting and transferring them according to positioning requirements.
  • Secure patients into or onto therapy equipment.
  • Administer active or passive manual therapeutic exercises therapeutic massage aquatic physical therapy or heat light sound or electrical modality treatments such as ultrasound.
  • Communicate with or instruct caregivers or family members on patient therapeutic activities or treatment plans.
  • Measure patients range-of-joint motion body parts or vital signs to determine effects of treatments or for patient evaluations.
  • Monitor operation of equipment and record use of equipment and administration of treatment.
  • Fit patients for orthopedic braces prostheses or supportive devices such as crutches.
  • Train patients in the use of orthopedic braces prostheses or supportive devices.
  • Clean work area and check and store equipment after treatment.
  • Assist patients to dress undress or put on and remove supportive devices such as braces splints or slings.
  • Attend or conduct continuing education courses seminars or in-service activities.
  • Perform clerical duties such as taking inventory ordering supplies answering telephone taking messages or filling out forms.
  • Prepare treatment areas and electrotherapy equipment for use by physiotherapists.
  • Administer traction to relieve neck or back pain using intermittent or static traction equipment.
  • Perform postural drainage percussions or vibrations or teach deep breathing exercises to treat respiratory conditions.
Requirements:
  • Associates Degree required
  • 1 plus years of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant
