The Department of Corrections Division of Institutions is recruiting for a Food Service Supervisor at the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) located in Anchorage Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

This position oversees all food service operations at the Anchorage Correctional Complex ensuring the safe efficient and compliant preparation and delivery of meals. The Food Service Supervisor manages budgeting menu planning and food production; enforces sanitation safety and security standards; and oversees staff training and scheduling. The role also includes managing inventory ordering and supplies to meet the daily meal needs of approximately 1000 inmates.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position includes a private office located within the secured area of the East Kitchen and overseas operations in both the East and West Kitchens. Responsibilities include food budget planning menu development and conversions production adjustments to ensure nutritional value and providing supervision and technical guidance to staff cooks.

Minimum Qualifications

A certificate from an accredited college technical or vocational school for completion of a course of study in professional cooking food service/dietary management food technology culinary arts food science/nutrition dietetics chefs training or a closely related area.
AND
One year of lead level experience in food preparation in a custodial/residential institution. This experience is met by service as a Food Service Lead with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
One year of food service experience which includes nutrition and menu planning staff scheduling food safety and handling and purchasing and inventory management in a custodial/residential institution will substitute for the certification.

There is no substitute for the one year of lead level experience.

Special Note:
Most positions require understanding of and willingness to work with the resident population of a state correctional facility psychiatric hospital retirement home senior/geriatric center or center for the developmentally disabled. Incumbents are required to adhere to the statutes rules regulations policies and procedures of the institution which govern such activities as interaction with inmates/residents employee conduct security and property protection. Performance of duties may include sole responsibility for the supervision and security of inmates/residents.

PREA NOTIFICATION

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including but not limited to Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:

  • Sexual abuse in a prison jail lockup community confinement facility juvenile facility or other institutions.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK & APSIN

Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
