In the Civil Division approximately 80 attorneys provide legal support to the executive branch agencies in the form of general counsel advice administrative hearing prosecutions board representation and all stages of civil litigation.

Summary Statement
The Civil Division Defensive Litigation Unit seeks a Deputy Attorney General to serve as Unit Head in the New Castle County office.
The Deputy Attorneys General in the Defensive Litigation Unit defend the State its agencies officials and employees in civil litigation in a wide variety of matters including employment and civil rights actions. Primarily the matters handled in this Unit are focused on civil rights/constitutional law employment law and actions brought by inmates pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 1983. Cases are handled in both state and federal court.
Essential Functions
The Unit Head will carry his/her own caseload of defensive litigation cases and direct and manage other Deputy Attorneys General and the Assistant Unit Head; coordinate assignments for all Unit members; cooperate with other Unit Heads; carry out the direction and delegation of upper management; and perform other managerial tasks as needed.
Job Requirements
The Unit Head must be able to effectively handle civil litigation develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General support staff and clients and must have the ability and determination to learn new areas of the law in order to guide and support the Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit. Membership in Delaware Bar required.
