JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in marking trails for new parks and trimming trees in all park areas. Maintains rights-of-way for the Electric Utility Department as required or assigned.
Works under the supervision of the Parks Superintendent Assistant Parks Superintendent and City Arborist. May supervise Worker I positions community service workers or seasonal employees as required and assigned.
Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees officials and all members of the general public
Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the city
Assists in the training and/or supervision of lower level employees or community service workers.
Reports damaged power lines braces and house drops to the Electric Utility Department.
Trimming or removal of trees in public places and parks that pose a hazard or obstruct traffic signs.
Plant trees or shrubs as assigned.
Chemically treats stumps and brush in parks and power line right-of-ways and parks.
Maintains lights for tennis courts flag poles and ball fields.
Treats and/or removes tree roots that obstruct city drainage systems.
Sets up special events as required.
Keeps accurate records of work completed.
Snow removal duties as assigned.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
May serve on various employee committees as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This position is subject to the City of Farmingtons Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing post-accident testing random testing reasonable suspicion testing return to duty testing and follow-up testing.
This position requires a baseline audiometric examination
Extensive background checks required
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two years experience in tree trimming removal or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Valid New Mexico drivers license with CDL endorsement with acceptable driving record for past three years or ability to obtain CDL within one year of entry into position.
Ability to obtain certification in Aerial Lift and Bucket Truck operation within 3 months of hire date.
Working from a bucket truck at heights up to 55 feet and higher cuts trims and prunes trees. Frequently works around and near electric power lines.
Using climbing equipment climbs and works at heights of up to 100 feet cutting trimming and pruning trees.
Working knowledge of equipment materials and supplies including chemicals used in tree trimming and tree removal.
Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
Ability to read blueprints and section maps to determine rights-of-way for construction and maintenance of existing rights-of-way.
Ability to determine hardwood softwood diseased woods and insect damaged trees.
Ability to interpret volts kilowatts and amps.
Supervisory experience is preferred.
Must have a telephone at residence and be willing to be on 24 hour call; must be able to be at the Parks Operations Shop within thirty minutes after receiving a call.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers supervisors other City personnel and the public.
Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
Ability to meet deadlines.
This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the Citys Environmental Health and Safety program.
Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Bucket truck chain saws rope and climbing gear chipper backhoe dump truck front end loader stump grinder tractor hydraulic stick saw hydraulic pruners hand pole saws and various hand tools.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms including overhead lifting balance stoop kneel crouch crawl talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb and sit.
The employee must be able to work at heights of 50 or higher in order to trim trees.
The employee must be able to climb trees from ground level to 100 with full climbing gear and tools weighing approximately 15 to 25 pounds at least 25% of the time.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance and occasionally pull up to 130 pounds with assistance. Must be able to lift own weight when climbing trees.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and lightning.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
