Job Summary

General Purpose

To provide students with an opportunity to develop professional skills knowledge and experience in exhibit installation art handling practices and what goes into preparing for an exhibit through a hands-on educational and professional experience as an adjunct to a students educational program or path of study at the University of Vermont Champlain College or Saint Michaels College.

Essential Job Functions

Support the Art Services Coordinator through assistance with off-site exhibition installations and related tasks including: art hanging handling packing and transporting; related administrative functions and install preparation; updating and maintaining the artist database; assistance with special projects and other BCA functions as needed; in a professional arts organization/non-profit setting.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity equity and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Availability 1-2 days per week (ideal candidate will be available Tuesdays during business hours for full day installs and one partial flexible day for admin work.)
  • Must be a student currently enrolled at University of Vermont Champlain College or St. Michaels College taking a course for credit.
  • Demonstrated interest in the arts (ideal candidate is currently pursuing a degree in studio art art education art history museum or curatorial studies or a related field.)
  • Ability to assist with installation of artwork including but not limited to lifting use of a ladder and use of basic tools. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity working with a Windows OS including knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software. Some experience with Excel preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail flexibility willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to professionally represent Burlington City Arts in all interactions with artists clients and the general public.
