Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

As the Student Accommodations and Disability Services Specialist you will provide individualized support to students with disabilities by reviewing documentation developing and implementing reasonable accommodations and coordinating the delivery of access this position you will also promote student self-advocacy self-determination and academic success through both accommodations and proactive coaching.

In addition to managing accommodations you will provide coaching to studentsindividually and in groupsfocused on organization time management study strategies and navigating university systems and resources. Coaching may also include helping students build general understanding of course expectations or assignments guiding them in how to interpret instructions plan their work and develop effective approaches to learning. This support complements but does not replace tutoring or direct instructional support.

You will also serve as a key point of contact for students faculty and campus partnersincluding counseling advisingTRIOprograms andWashington State University Global Campusto foster a coordinated and inclusive support this role you will also participate in departmental and university committees contribute to program development and assessment and design and deliver student workshops on topics such as academic skills disability awareness and self-advocacy.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary: $4050.92 - $4495.53 Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelors degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Masters degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a yearforyear basis.

  • Experience providing academic advising and academic adjustments/ accommodations to students with disabilities OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Excellent oral written and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong computer skills to include working with databases spreadsheets and word processing.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a relevant field (Higher Education Student Affairs Counseling Social Work Rehabilitation Counseling).

  • One-two years direct experience serving students with disabilities in higher education.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act theADAand other pertinent federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for disabled students.

  • Knowledge of universal design and assistive technologies for people with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of student development and student affairs theory.

  • Sensitivity and competency in working with a diverse population.

  • Ability to effectively work as a member of a team and to work collaboratively with others.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
