ATTENTION ALL ALASKA RESIDENTS!
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region is looking for an Engineer/Architect 4 (Materials Group Chief) in Anchorage to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:

This position will function as the Materials Group Chief with significant discretion and authority for the full range of professional and administrative actions of the Central Region Material Section. This position is responsible for directing the AASHTO Accredited (State) Central Region Materials Lab and directing planning and supervising the acquisition evaluation of soil and hydrological data compilation required for capital improvement projects (CIP) and Airport Improvement Program (AIP) as well as for the States Transportation Program review and approve geotechnical activities approve materials specification requirements and ensure that work products of the section are on time and within budget. This position also represents and coordinates with Departmental and agency personnel on Materials Section aspects as they relate to the overall federal and state Highway and Aviation programs.

The Central Region Materials Section is a team of over 20 members including Geotechnical Engineers Engineering Assistants Engineering Geologists and Lab Technician staff members. Together they collaborate to develop geotechnical design reports and recommendations supporting highway and aviation design projects. The incumbent oversees the team that supports construction activities across the state in regards to materials testing. The incumbent will play a key role in this team providing oversight of geotechnical engineering and materials testing efforts to advance capital improvement projects and support maintenance and operations.

The working environment you can expect:
Our office is located at 5750 East Tudor Road in Anchorage which is a satellite office to our main branch at 4111 Aviation Avenue. The position has a private office within the Central Region Materials Lab building. The Tudor office is also located right by Far North Bicentennial Park with easy access to hiking & biking trails. Daily work is centric to collaboration with Materials Section staff peers and management staff that are friendly and enthusiastic about their work; and overseeing work products generated by your team.

Special Note:
  • Valid Drivers License is required.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Alaska.

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect and six years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer/Architect series) of which three years were in a supervisory or project manager capacity as an Engineer/Architect 2 or higher or the equivalent.

Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this agreement must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Positions in this class require registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.
