Primary Responsibilities:
The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos is seeking a dynamic Senior Software Engineer to support cloud modernization initiatives for the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at Command Control Communication Computer Cyber and Intelligence Service Center (C5ISC) in the Alexandria VA area. This role is part of a high-impact program focused on delivering secure scalable cloud solutions that enable operational agility and resilience across the USCG enterprise.
As the Azure Virtual Desktop Engineer you will lead the management of our enterprise AVD environment. This role also includes responsibility for cloud patching operations across our AWS/Azure infrastructure ensuring secure compliant and high-performing virtual desktop and cloud systems. Youll work closely with cloud engineers cybersecurity analysts and program leadership to drive continuous improvement and deliver value to the mission.
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
- Implement scalable AVD solutions for enterprise workloads.
- Manage host pools session hosts FSLogix profiles and user access policies.
- Optimize performance cost and user experience across AVD deployments.
- Troubleshoot connectivity latency and configuration issues in virtual desktop environments.
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to enforce policies and controls.
Cloud Patching & Maintenance
- Design and execute patching strategies for AWS and Azure cloud services.
- Automate patch deployment using AWS Azure and other third-party tools.
- Monitor patch compliance and generate reports for audit and security teams.
- Coordinate with application owners to schedule and validate patching windows.
- Respond to patch-related incidents and rollback procedures when necessary.
- Support cross-functional coordination across engineering cybersecurity and program management teams
- Promote continuous improvement through feedback loops and process refinement
- Ensure alignment with USCG mission priorities and Leidos delivery standards
- Bachelors degree in a related field (e.g. Computer Science Information Systems Business)
- 12 years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering.
- Deep expertise in Azure Virtual Desktop Azure Resource Manager (ARM) and Azure Active Directory.
- Proficiency with AWS core services (EC2 S3 IAM Systems Manager).
- Experience with patching tools such as Azure Update Management AWS Patch Manager SCCM or WSUS.
- Strong scripting skills (PowerShell Python or Bash).
- Excellent facilitation communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced mission-driven environment
- Certifications such as AZ-140 AZ-104 AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust and DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience supporting DHS USCG or other federal cloud modernization efforts
- Experience with Intune Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Defender for Endpoint.
- Knowledge of hybrid identity models and conditional access policies.
- Strong documentation communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience working with technical teams in cloud cybersecurity or enterprise IT environments
