| Job Description: | The Florida Museum of Natural History is seeking an Exhibit and Facility Coordinator. The Exhibit and Facility Coordinator is as key member of exhibit team participating in all phases of exhibit design development and production. Assists exhibit fabrication installation strike and maintenance. Reviews designs fabrication drawings exhibit install/strike plans materials and logistics. Performs regular exhibit and facility inspections to identify repair and maintenance needs completing and coordinating repair and resolution. Facility duties include coordinating communicating and resolving facility maintenance and repair issues with UF Facilities. Maintains building security system access and key inventory. Job Duties: - Exhibit Maintenance and Fabrication Support
- Performs daily inspections of exhibit galleries structures artifact displays audiovisual systems technology and lighting to identify maintenance and repair needs. Completes routine repairs and assists with maintenance projects under supervision. Supports fabrication of exhibit elements including cabinetry mounts and display components. Assists with exhibit warehouse storage organization and inventory. Monitors artifact displays and mounts to ensure stability and proper environmental conditions. Communicates regularly with supervisor to prioritize tasks plan projects and meet schedules safely and efficiently.
- Facility Operations and Safety Coordination
- Coordinates and tracks building maintenance and repairs through the UF work order system. Inspects facilities and identifies operational safety and maintenance issues ensuring timely resolution and quality control. Oversees paint flooring lighting and minor repairs to maintain a professional museum appearance. Manages building access control key logs and alarm systems ensuring appropriate security for all staff and contractors. Serves as Building Emergency Coordinator developing response plans and coordinating emergency and severe weather preparedness. Supports continuity of critical building functions during outages or closures.
- Temporary Exhibit Installation and Operations
- Assists in the installation and strike of temporary and traveling exhibits including graphics banners displays and interactive elements. Coordinates logistics such as scheduling transportation and work crew tasks leading smaller projects as assigned. Monitors operation of temporary exhibits and assists with AV lighting and maintenance needs during their run. Participates in exhibit review and selection meetings and helps coordinate installation and strike plans with project teams.
- Exhibit Design and Development Assistance
- Supports exhibit planning and development by researching and drafting interpretive text reviewing design and fabrication plans and assisting with image and graphic production. Collaborates with curators collections staff and designers to select display objects verify scientific content and ensure accurate and engaging presentation. Works closely with the fabrication and installation teams to align design concepts with practical fabrication and installation requirements.

| Preferred: | Bachelors degree or higher in Museum Studies Industrial Design Architecture Engineering Fine Arts or a related field. Experience in exhibit fabrication museum operations or facility maintenance preferably in a museum or similar public setting. Experience with fabrication tools exhibit lighting audiovisual systems and environmental monitoring equipment. Familiarity with building maintenance procedures safety standards and emergency preparedness. Strong project coordination communication and teamwork skills. Proficiency with design or drafting software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite SketchUp AutoCAD) preferred. Background or experience in science or natural history is a plus. |
