About the College

Located on a beautiful 136 acre property in the Yarra Valley (60 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD) Worawa Aboriginal College is an Aboriginal community initiative as Victorias only registered Independent Aboriginal School. A full boarding school Worawa caters for Aboriginal girls in the secondary years of schooling Years 7-12. Worawa was established as a response to the needs of Aboriginal adolescents and the difficulties these young people experience in the mainstream educational system. Students come from Aboriginal communities across the country.

The education model is based on the Aboriginal values of Relationship Responsibility Respect and Rigour that inform all aspects of College operations. Along with the core academic program emphasis is placed on nurturing and celebrating Aboriginal culture as a crucial aspect of student self-esteem and wellbeing.

About the Role

Reporting to the Community Engagement Coordinator the Health & First Aid Administrator supports the delivery of high-quality health and wellbeing services for students. This hands-on role involves coordinating medical appointments administering first aid and medication maintaining medical records and promoting a healthy school environment.

Working collaboratively with the Colleges health service providers teaching and boarding teams the role ensures a holistic approach to each students wellbeing.

This position requires the incumbent to embrace the Worawa ethos of Aboriginal values Aboriginal-led decision-making and the right to Aboriginal self-determination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate student health management and medical appointments with external providers (GP allied health dental etc.)
  • Administer first aid and manage student medications in line with College policy
  • Maintain accurate student medical records and health care plans
  • Support student wellbeing through effective communication with staff parents and healthcare providers
  • Transport students to medical appointments
  • Ensure compliance with child safety and health legislation
  • Promote health awareness and support wellbeing initiatives across the College

About You

To be successful in this role youll bring:

  • HLTSS00068 Occupational First Aid Skill Set and demonstrated competency in Basic Life Support (or equivalent)
  • Course in Verifying the Correct Use of Adrenaline Injector Devices (22579VIC)
  • Experience in health promotion education or case coordination (preferably in a school setting)
  • A strong ability to prioritise organise and communicate effectively
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and child safety standards
  • Current Working with Children Check Police Check and Drivers Licence

Desirable:

  • Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities and understanding of Aboriginal health issues
