Job Title: Mechanical and Electrical Quality Engineering
12 Month Industrial Placement Scheme
Discipline: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Electric Power Division (EPD)
Location: Larne Northern Ireland
Salary: 26000 Share Scheme Pension and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).
We currently have some exciting opportunities for industrial placement students to join Caterpillar across several of our sites. You will have the opportunity to work with others across our organisation and you will be directly involved and at the heart of our business participating on strategic projects.
*Please note that in order to be eligible to complete a 12 Month Industrial Placement commencing in the summer of 2026 you must be in your penultimate year of study unless enrolled in an integrated masters program.

Caterpillar Northern Ireland
Formerly known as FG Wilson Caterpillar Northern Ireland was acquired by Caterpillar in 1999 and is an integral part of the Caterpillar company has two sites in Northern Ireland. The facility located in Larne is home to the Electric Power business where the team designs and manufactures Cat Power Solutions for key business sectors including data centres construction mining healthcare utility and other industries.

Offers will be made based on the condition that a graduate role is available at the time of your graduation and that you achieve a min of 2:2.
The role
A position has become available for Mechanical or Electrical Engineering placement student at Caterpillar (NI) Limited located in Larne within the Electric Power Division Global Solutions Engineering team. The group is responsible for custom power product design of equipment for diesel and gas-powered generators. Global Process Excellence placements offer placement students real life product experience in a customer focused environment.
Job duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Oversee and assess product quality and warranty performance.
Manage projects aimed at enhancing product quality and minimising warranty claims.
Monitor and evaluate compliance with product standards.
Serve as a liaison with shop floor personnel involved in product assembly and manufacturing.
Successfully complete foundational training in engineering standards and apply acquired knowledge.
Perform any other assigned tasks promptly to support EPD.
Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Applicants should be working towards a relevant Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering degree and on target to achieve a minimum 2:2 classification.

Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application and attach your CV this must be done before the closing date of the role that youre applying for. Stage one Video Interview: If selected you will be invited to complete a user-friendly video interview which will then be reviewed by the Hiring this stage if you are successful you will be invited to attend an assessment centre at our Larne facility and we envisage this will be taking place on 27th January 2026. Stage two Assessment Centre: The assessment centre will look at a range of behaviours such as teamwork decision-making communication and problem-solving.
Stage three Offer: After the interview the Caterpillar team will review the feedback and extend offers to our preferred candidates we aim to do this as quickly as possible. Placement students will start on 29th June 2026. We look forward to receiving your application to join Caterpillar!
