Join our team as a Life Skills Coordinator (Correctional Recreation Specialist 2) and play a vital role in supporting the operations at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in the Correctional Rehabilitation Unit (CRU).
This recruitment is for one permanent position and/or possible Job Rotation with a developmental opportunity for internal applicants only. The Job Rotation with a developmental option is anticipated to last 12 months though may be extended or decreased due to business need.
This rotation is available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections Oregon Corrections Enterprises or Oregon Board of Parole Probation and Post-Prison Supervision with their current managers approval.
Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications for this classification may be considered as a developmental.
Developmental candidates are not eligible for Work Out of Class Differential. Preference may be given to those who meet the minimum qualifications for the classification.
In this role you will be responsible for assessing designing coordinating and implementing a wide range of gender-responsive and trauma-informed social cultural athletic and leisure activities while also performing various security-related functions. This position plays a key role in developing and managing facility events Life Skills programming and structured activities for adults in custody. You will oversee the inventory and maintenance of recreational equipment and Life Skills supplies while also evaluating funding sources facility space and community partnerships to expand and improve programming.
In this role youll serve as a liaison to staff volunteers and community partners ensuring all individuals meet training orientation and facility access requirements. Additionally youll deliver high-quality customer service while managing the operations of a revenue-generating program. This includes hiring training and supervising AIC workers holding them accountable for the appropriate use of equipment reinforcing positive behavior and administering terminations when necessary.
This position is represented by American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) as defined by statute.
Three (3) years of experience assessing developing coordinating and implementing recreational programs and leisure time activities;
OR
A bachelors degree in Recreational Management Physical Education or a related field.
Developmental opportunity is only available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections Oregon Corrections Enterprises or Oregon Board of Parole Probation and Post-Prison Supervision with their current managers approval.
You do not have to meet the minimum qualifications if you are an internal applicant.

Preference will be given to candidates that have experience in a correctional setting.
Work if performed within the secure confines or an adult minimum to maximum security Correctional Facility. Interactions with adults in custody occurs daily and there is an inherent responsibility to support security staff during periods of AIC unrest. The individual in this position is subject to callback and reassignment to any work area of the facility in the event of an emergency or work stoppage.
The facility is in western Oregon and is exposed to temperature extremes and inclement weather. Walking long distances to get to the work area or to perform duties is required.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.
